Cloud Application Deployment Models

Digital transformation or modernization is challenging, and for many organizations that already have their applications in a non-cloud environment, it could take more than a year or many years of effort to complete modernization. The success of modernization or cloud migration depends on many factors. The first is deciding which deployment model is the right choice for the applications.

When deploying applications on the cloud, we have mainly two approaches: one is All-in (Cloud), and the other is Hybrid. And there is another choice, which is On-premises, in which all IT infrastructure and IT assets are deployed on an on-premises data center as a private cloud.

When deploying applications on the cloud, we have two approaches: all-in and hybrid. This post is a brief look into both of these cloud application deployment models.

All-in Cloud-Based Deployment Model

In All-in Deployment Model, all components of applications are deployed in the cloud.

In this deployment model, either application is directly developed utilizing cloud components and deployed on the cloud.

Or, the applications deployed earlier on the on-premises data center are now migrated fully to the cloud.

In other words, you don’t need your on-premises data center set up to run and manage your applications in this deployment model. Instead, it’s all cloud in All-In Deployment Model.

Hybrid Cloud-Based Deployment Model

As the name says in this deployment model, you still use your data center for your applications deployment and data needs in the Hybrid Deployment Model, though partly – means applications are not completely moved or migrated to the cloud.

In the hybrid model, cloud-based resources are connected with the existing data center resources.

One common method of the Hybrid model is that organizations grow their applications and infrastructure footprints on the cloud while connecting to their internal data centers for their core applications.

Organizations in some domains, because of security or other related concern, always prefer hybrid deployment models.

On-premises

Though cloud computing main advantages come from a public cloud, organizations in banking, finance, and health care domains have solid regulations and other strong security requirements compared to other business domains. Because of these and other reasons, such as if the cost-benefit analysis is not making a much difference to pivot to complete public or hybrid, they prefer complete on-premises private cloud deployment.
